Mavis Bear

Mavis Theresa Bear passed away at Worland Healthcare on May 21, 2022.

She was born August 17,1932 in Corson, South Dakota to John Miller McCleod and Mary Louise (Forte).

On May 16, 1951 Mavis married the love of her life Charles Grant Bear. They had 67 wonderful years together until Chuck passed into Heaven on September 23, 2018.

Mavis spent her life being a stay-at-home mom, doing all kinds of arts and crafts during her lifetime beginning when she was a young girl by getting paper from out of the garbage behind a newspaper printing shop and making paper dolls out of it. She spent her life sculpting, painting, scratch board, making dolls, teddy bears, clothes, any kind of craft you can think of mom mastered and excelled at! She was also an amazing cook and baker. In their later years, Dad gladly became the chief cook and bottle washer! A great source of pride for mom was her Native American heritage and being a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

Mavis and Chuck had 5 children, the first was Randy, who was stillborn followed by Mike Bear, Susan Blom, Bruce (Donna) Bear and Tess (Jeff) Craft. Grandchildren are: Joshua (Amber) Bear, Craig (Meg) Bear, Amber Marie Bear, Marshall (Amanda) Blom, Chris (Kobi) Bear, Bryan Bear, Zachary (Nikki) Craft, Jeremy (Justy) Craft, Timothy Craft and Justin Craft. Great-grandchildren are: Daylan, Joshua, Trigg and Oden, Cade Bear, Brooklyn and Colter Craft and Mavis Sue Blom. Mavis is also survived by a very large extended family along with many other special and loved nieces and nephews. Mom and Dad always looked so forward to the "Greybull Bunch" coming to Worland for their weekly get together and the meals that Chuck would happily cook for everyone and the visiting they all loved so much!

Mavis was preceded in death by infant son, Randy and daughter-in-law, Lorene Bear also siblings: baby brother, Mack who died before the age of 1; little brother, John (Junior) who died at the age of 5; Mary; Eleanor; Fannie; Agatha; Mary Margaret; Edward (Sonny); Walter; Melvin and Earl. Our family will forever be grateful for the loving concern and care that our mom received by all of the staff during the 2 years that she lived at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Per mom's request, there will be no services. Mavis's cremains will be taken to Moorcroft to be interred with Chuck and infant son, Randy.
