Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND – During their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 27, Washakie County School District No. 1 school board approved a motion to move their rummage sale to June in the upcoming years, as opposed to October, like it has been years prior.
Business Manager Charlie Cauffman approached the board with the idea to move the sale, not seeing a point of holding onto the surplus property for several additional months.
However, due to short notice, this year’s sale will be July 15 and 16. Cauffman will be presenting the board with a final list of items going into the sale at the next school board meeting. The school board approved this change.

Also during the meeting, the board approved a concurrent salary lane after Cauffman proposed the addition to the current salary schedule.
“One of the things were trying to move to at our high school is trying to do more concurrent courses as a partnership with our local community colleges,” Cauffman said. “When that does happen, teachers have to go get certified and get master’s degrees in the area of content. So like, an English teacher would get a master’s degree in English – they then would be able to teach concurrently from Northwest College. So it would require some of these teachers to get master’s degrees. So the reason we added that was to provide incentive for those who are going to do that, or long term be able to do that.
“What happens is, teachers need some benefit in order for them to do that. Its money out of their pocket to go get their master’s degree and so to award them with higher salary for doing it is why we’re doing that.”
The school board also approved the Northern Wyoming News as the district newspaper of record.
The July school board meeting was moved to July 13 due to the fact that the board will have to approve their 2022-23 budget by the third Wednesday of July.
Worland school board approved the following new staff for the 2022-23 school year: Robyn Jones for the Worland High School special education teacher, Brian Aagard as the welding instructor at WHS, Candace Whitlock as a fourth grade teacher and Melanie McDonald as a third grade teacher.
Several coaches were up for rehire at June’s school board meeting. Board Secretary Brett Argeris requested that the board vote on the rehires for the positions at WHS individually, rather than by block.
Head coach Tracey Wiley and assistant coaches Rob Woffinden, Tammy Montoya, Brian Gunderson and Amber Tibbits were approved unanimously for outdoor track.
Head coach Ronald Overcast and assistant coach Jesus Davila were approved unanimously for boys’ soccer.
Anja Abbott was approved unanimously for the girls’ soccer assistant coach position.
Benjamin Hofmann was approved as head coach and Randy Durr for assistant coach for golf, with Argeris opposing.
