Pig wrestling teams limited as 2022 Washakie County Fair starts July 23

WORLAND — With limited numbers of pig wrestling teams this year, all teams must obtain applications from and return applications to the Washakie County Fair Board’s bookkeeping company, S&A Accounting, 728 Big Horn Avenue.

Teams will not be considered entered until entry forms and waivers, along with payment are turned in.

There will be 15 peewee teams for ages 6 to 9; 15 intermediate for ages 10 to 15 and 10 co-ed adult teams for 16 and older. For the adult co-ed teams there must be at least one member of the opposite sex on the four-member team.

Teams are limited this year after the normal pig wrestling contractor had to cancel.

The board has contracted with Bill Klein of Wheatland to provide 40 pigs and with Lynn Murdoch to operate the pig wrestling event for the fair this year.

Entries are due by Friday, July 22, or until all team slots are filled.

In other news from Monday’s regular board meeting, the board officially set the crowning ceremony for the inaugural Washakie County Fair Royalty for Monday evening, July 25 at 6 p.m.

Chairman Jeff Lapp said he had previously talked to the county commissioners about bringing back the root beer float treats that commissioners served and suggested they do it on that Monday night during the ceremony.

The board also made a counteroffer to Tim and Tami Young regarding the youth tractor train. The Youngs said they would provide the train rides free of charge for youth if the board contracted with them for $2,300 for Monday through Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m.

The board countered with $1,500, same price as last year, or the Youngs could operate the train as a vendor and charge youth for rides.

No information was received from the Youngs before the end of the meeting regarding the counteroffer.

The board also reviewed work for the week of fair with County Maintenance Supervisor Tom Schmeltzer and with entertainment contractor Daniel Kosel.

This year’s main entertainment lineup is as follows:
