Lady Warriors excited for first home meet of the season

WORLAND - For the first time this season, the Worland Lady Warriors are hosting their first home meet. With so many swimmers and divers close to qualifying for state, this weekend could be where Worland has multiple athletes punch their ticket to state.

The Lady Warriors quad meet will see them compete against Buffalo, Pinedale and Powell on Friday at 5 p.m. Worland closes out the week in Powell at the Powell invitational.

"We have a bunch of girls that are right on the edge of qualifying for state in several events," said WHS girls swimming coach Mike Blissett. "I'm hoping the home meet, with the energy of a home crowd, will help push them, and we can get those girls headed to state, plus get the others to drop even more time. For the Powell meet, it'll be the same basic idea - put together a good race and drop time. Those who are close to qualifying need to get it done this week."

Last week the Lady Warriors were in Cody on Sept. 1 and 2, Lady Warrior Shae Whitlock qualified for state in the 200-yard individual medley. Whitlock swam a 2:38.35 and finished sixth in the IM.

Other highlights from Worland's two meets in Cody were Kera Campbell's swim in the 100-yard butterfly and Myah Herby's 100-yard freestyle. Campbell swam a 1:18.31 in the butterfly, and Herby posted a 1:09.35 in the 100 free.

"We were really impressed with Kiera Campbell's 100 fly, and Myah Herby's 100 free. They both are working hard in practice and turning in some impressive times in meets, and it's going to be exciting to see their progress," said Blissett.

From Week 1 to Week 2, diver Haley Kinghorn, swimmers Kadence Aagard, Elizabeth Leach and Rosslyn Rutledge have shown the largest improvements for the Lady Warriors.

Kinghorn is on the verge of qualifying for state, and Aagard, Leach and Rutledge are cutting huge chunks of time.

"Haley Kinghorn had a great weekend on the board and is now very close to qualifying for state in diving. This is also the time of year when we start to see huge drops in time from our younger swimmers.

"Kadence Aagard stood out as one who dropped a ton of time this weekend, and Elizabeth Leach has shown a ton of improvement in her technique from last season, which is leading to faster times as well. Rosslyn Rutledge was excited for a huge PR over her previous best 500 free time, which I'm sure will continue to fall as the season progresses," said Blissett.
