Worland High School drama wins overall title at Wyoming State Thespian Festival

WORLAND – The Worland High School drama team took the first-place overall trophy home from the State Thespian Festival in Gillette last weekend thanks to high scores in music and plays.

This is fourth state title in the past six years. They won consecutive titles in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The arena play "Bus Stop" performed by Worland High School Drama students received a score of 31.33 out of 32, earning it first place in the category. The play was about a child who starts at a new school while navigating life in the foster care system. It was performed in an arena format, meaning that the audience surrounds the stage and the play can be viewed from all angles.

The devised play "Stampede" earned fifth place overall with a score of 27. The devised play was written by the Worland High School drama team. This play is about a family holiday full of uncomfortable truths coming to light.

Coach Rick Dorn said that other factors that contributed to the overall victory were the excellent performances his team put on in musical categories, with at least one All-State placer in each.
