Red Cross assists four adults after a house fire

WORLAND — Red Cross of Wyoming assisted four adults affected by a house fire on South Tenth Street in Worland on Friday, Dec.  23.

According to a press release from the Worland Volunteer Fire Department, the department was was paged to 804 South 10th Street at 2:30 p.m. on Friday for the report of wiring starting to smoke and catch fire in a wall. Upon arrival fire and law enforcement worked to get everyone evacuated.

Crews then suppressed the working attic fire. There were no reported injuries due to this fire.

According to the Washakie County Map Server, Dausar and Nissar Khan are the owners of the property.

Agencies on scene were Worland Fire, Cody Regional Health Ambulance, Worland Police Department, Washakie County Sheriff’s Office, Washakie County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch, City of Worland utilities department and Rocky Mountain Power.

Red Cross assistance can provide care, comfort, mental health and health services, disaster supplies, lodging, and assistance for other immediate needs.

Worland Fire Chief Chris Kocher said the fire was due to overloaded electrical.

Fire damage was focused in the attic and center wall of the home, Kocher said. He added that some of the ceiling was removed to get insulation out.

“The home will be repairable, unfortunately, the homeowner was uninsured so the family is displaced and staying with family with some help from the Red Cross,” Kocher said.

He added that luckily the occupants noticed the fire and called right away or it could have been a much different situation.

The Worland Fire Department was paged out at 2:30 p.m. and left the scene about 5 p.m.

Kocher also reported that the fire in Ten Sleep on Dec. 14 is still under investigation with assistance from the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The morning fire was at 314 Second Street, Apartment 2, a log building across from the Pony Express gas station. The Washakie County Map Server lists Carter Country Fabrication LLC as the owner.
