Gary Gene Gilmore

Gary Gene Gilmore, 59, passed away in Worland, Wyoming on January 18, 2023, surrounded by family. Gary was born in Worland on September 25, 1963, to Charles Edward and Vasca Lou (Sturdevant) Gilmore. He was the only boy with three sisters.

Gary was raised in Worland and graduated from Worland High School in 1982. Gary was always athletic and loved playing basketball, baseball, and football. He continued his education at Southern Utah University, receiving a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work. He played baseball for the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. Upon his graduation from college, he was employed at the Wyoming Boys School until his retirement in 2022. He had worked his way up from a floor supervisor in the "old buildings" to a dorm director in the new buildings, on to clinical director and achieved his goal of becoming Superintendent in 2004.

Gary loved a wide variety of hobbies. Besides the sports he loved so much, he enjoyed traveling, waterskiing, golfing, bow hunting, fishing, riding his horse, dirt biking, and camping. He played competitive volleyball for several years and enjoyed Wednesday night pickleball games with close friends. He always planned his June events around the Dooley cattle drive. He enjoyed many golf trips with friends, from California's Death Valley to the guy's trip to Puerto Vallarta. He always planned to return to the Cayman Islands someday. Gary was an umpire at many state baseball events, and was an exceptional referee for high school basketball for many years.

On August 21, 2002, he married L'nette Hoffman in Hyattville, Wyoming. To this union, their only child Landen was born. Gary retired his whistle and stripes and moved on from refereeing to coach Landen in baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. Gary was a proud father and never missed a chance to offer Landen a good piece of advice. Gary enjoyed sharing his favorite music with Landen as they wound down the day. Landen learned to love many of those songs, which he listens to often on his Spotify playlists.

Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Vasca Gilmore; his wife, L'nette; son, Landen; sisters: Tracy (John) Koski of Billings, MT and their girls Caitlin Koski and Lindsay Koski; Shawna Bagwell of Amarillo, TX and her boys Luke Bagwell and Levi Bagwell; Leslie Gilmore of Tulsa, OK; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
