Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Gerry Robert "Bubba" Brown, 76, passed away at his home in Worland on February 17, 2023, with his loving wife and his daughter at his side along with other dear family members.
He was born in Lovell, Wyoming on December 8, 1946. He was the fifth of eight children born to Gerald Wilbur and Beulah Ann (Asay) Brown. Gerry grew up in the Byron, Cody, and Lovell areas.
After the tragic loss of his parents and oldest sister Nadine, he and his younger brother, Charlie were then raised by their maternal aunt and uncle, Ellen and Harry Cook, in Lovell. Gerry graduated from Lovell High School with the class of 1966.
After graduation, Gerry joined the Marine Corps, which took him to Tennessee and South Carolina. In his later years, he was an active member of the American Legion Post #44, serving as Post Commander in 1990-1991. He learned young, while serving in the Marines, that he could draw a crowd with his guitar. Music became an enjoyable sideline for him throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed entertaining people, friends and family, with his rich God-given country-western voice and that handsome Bubba Brown grin.
Bubba was a people person. He loved nothing more than to get your undivided attention whether it was with a practical joke, a honk of a horn, a good story, or a good song.
Gerry loved the outdoors. He knew the good fishing holes, camping spots, and hiking trails. He also cherished his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Gerry married Kathy Stevens, July 1968. To this union was born Kristy and Nathan. Gerry and Kathy later divorced. In 1979, he married Pam Cook Winters. He was a father figure to her three boys, Corey, Kerby, and Kyle. To this union Kasey was born. They divorced a few years later.
In 1989 he met and started dating Linda Bassett. They married in 1995. He helped Linda raise her three children, Brandon, Maggie and Kristen. Linda passed away November 2011.
Gerry met Jorja Ackermann in the spring of 2014, they married two years later. Together they shared a love of long drives, visiting family and friends and planning their future. Sadly, Gerry became ill just six months after they married, and some dreams were put on pause. Jorja was not only his wife, but a caregiver and loving support his last few years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda Jean Brown; brothers, Charles Brown and Gerald Ray, and sisters, Beverly Sanford and Harriet Nadine Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Jorja (First) Brown of Worland; daughter, Kristy (Greg) Sinks of Midland, Texas; sons, Nathan (Barbara) Brown of Worland; Kasey (Krista) Brown of Corpus Christi, Texas; stepson, Brandon (Whitney) Bassett of Loveland, Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters, with one on the way; Jorja's children and grandchildren; and his sisters: Dorothy (Les) Allen of Burlington, Wyoming, Linda (Rick) Salmon of Lovell, Wyoming and Carol (Frank) Stewart of Lovell.
