Charles Basil Johns was born January 21, 1930, to Bertha and Gobel Johns in Paragould, AR. He died April 4, 2023, in Mesa, AZ, at age 93.
Basil graduated from N.E. Missouri State University with a B.S. degree in general science. Then earned his D.O. degree from College of Health Sciences, Kansas City, MO, in 1956.
His first marriage from 1954-1972 produced five children: Lisa, Nina, Eben, Jeri and Josi.
He had medical practices in Olton, TX and Mineola, TX from 1957-1973.
In 1974, Basil, moved to Worland and built the Worland Community Clinic, later welcoming Dr. Beach Graham. Together, they provided excellent care to the families in the Big Horn Basin for 19 years.
In 1975, Basil married Maralee Shorten and welcomed son Garrett. After retiring in 1992 Basil organized a medical clinic for Admiral Beverage Corp. employees with the aid of Colleen Hinkle, RN.
Basil truly enjoyed the Wyoming outdoor life. He hunted and fished, horse packing into remote areas. Basil and Maralee moved around after his retirement, finally settling in Arizona.
Before his health declined, he enjoyed many trips bass fishing in Mexico and reminiscing about his family and friends in Worland and Ten Sleep.
He is survived by his 6 children and 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
