Due to inflation and the economy, Stars and Pipes saw a small number of vehicles entered in the annual Washakie County Stars and Pipes Demolition Derby Saturday.
Braden Harvey of Stars and Pipes said there were not enough limited weld vehicles to have a heat in that division. He said he had 17 drivers tell him they could not afford to have a derby vehicle this season.
Those who were able to compete thrilled a crowd that braved the rainy weather Saturday night at the Washakie County Fairgrounds.
In the Gut-and-Go division, Justin Howe took first place with Austin Paxton second and Colt Rishel third. Paxton also earned the Mad Dog award in that division.
Clinton Harris won the trucks division and the Mad Dog award. Riley Shaffer was second and Dominic Hartley was third.
This is the second year Stars and Stripes has organized the Washakie County derby in June. Harvey said they plan on returning in 2024.
