Worland spring sport coaches approved by school board

A highlight of the June 26 meeting of the Washakie County School Board No. 1 Board of Trustees was the hiring of coaching staff for the spring season of the 2023-2024 school year.

Tracey Wiley was rehired as the head coach for high school outdoor track.

Rob Woffinden, Tammy Montoya, Ryan Utterback and Amber Tibbits were rehired as assistant coaches for high school outdoor track.

Ron Overcast was rehired as the head coach for high school boys soccer.

Zach Lempka was rehired as assistant coach for high school boys soccer.

Jesus Davila was rehired as head coach of high school girls soccer.

Ben Hofmann was rehired as head coach of high school golf.

Candace Whitlock was rehired as assistant coach of high school golf.

Tim Barrus was rehired as head coach of high school softball.

Brenna Abel was rehired as head coach of middle school outdoor track.

Rachel Cruz, Charity Glanz and Nikki Donahue were rehired as assistant coaches for middle school outdoor track.

Alissa Hughes was rehired as the practice coach for middle school outdoor track.

Corey Davis was rehired as head coach for middle school boys soccer.

Rylan Mocko was rehired as assistant coach for middle school boys soccer.

Tanya Kienlen was rehired as head coach for middle school girls soccer.

Casey Wassum was rehired as assistant coach for middle school girls soccer.

New Activity Hires

Danielle Warren was hired as head coach for high school girls swimming.

Justin Howe was hired as assistant coach for high school girls swimming.

Kim Files was hired as coach for high school flag corps.

Phillip Nelson was hired as assistant coach for high school drama.

Casey Wassum was hired as head coach for eighth grade volleyball.

Kate Wassum was hired as assistant coach for eighth grade volleyball.

Beth Siegfried was hired as assistant coach for seventh grade volleyball.

Staffing

The following staffing recommendations were approved during the meeting:

•Resignation of Stine Turgeon, who worked at the Education Resource Center, effective end of contract year.

•Hire of Blake Mikkola as the high school/middle school band teacher.

•Hire of Stacy Green as the South Side administrative assistant.

Policy

The second readings of policies 2.1 Attendance and 2.50 Graduation Requirements were approved. Policy 2.1 and policy 2.50 were formerly the same policy, and have now been split apart to better reflect that they are independent of one another.

Business

Manager’s Report

Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding has created an opportunity for the district to place $1.569 million in their depreciation reserve. This money is used for things like construction projects and replacing vehicles, according to Chief Operations Officer Charlie Cauffman.

Expenditures for May 2023 amount to $1.782 million, up from $1.689 million.

Year-to-date expenditure is $16.504 million.

Summer construction plans are continuing as previously reported.

The fiscal year of 2023 will end on June 30.

Consolidated

Grant funds

The meeting for the Consolidated Grant funds for the fiscal year 2023-2024 was discussed. This meeting took place on June 20 and gave the public an opportunity to observe and give input on how federal government funds are spent within the school district.

The funds to be used through September 30, 2024 will be distributed as follows:

Carl D. Perkins Grant: $32,781.36 ($39,906.23 last year)

Title I-A: $459,397.60 ($484,584.61 last year)

Title II-A: $117,011.52 ($142,897.94 last year)

Title IV-A: $77,140.44 ($80,994.89 last year)

IDEA 611: $481,586 ($473,893 last year)

IDEA 619: $4,158 ($3,513 last year)

Worland Youth Learning Center: $206,750 ($175,000 for the next 4 years)

ARP Homeless II Grant: $47,435.84

ESSER III: $3,975,256.93

Notably, the disbursements are trending downward because of a lower enrollment in district schools.

Other

Aaron Abel was approved as the district’s official representative for the Wyoming High School Activities Association.

An addendum was approved for the dissolution of the Joint Powers Board. Previously it was stated that permission must be granted from the Attorney General but this is not the case, so mention of this clause will be omitted.
