Lloyd Franks

Lloyd Franks age 76 passed away on June 29, 2023 at Saint Vincent hospital in Billings, MT surrounded by his children. Lloyd was born on July 2, 1946 in Lovell, Wy to Buelah and Harmon Franks and was known as Sonny by his family. He was the youngest of 4 children and the only son. He went to Lovell High School graduating in 1964. Lloyd was a member of the FFA, was class secretary and a member of the wrestling team. Lloyd met Jane Gams in Lovell, Wy and they were married April 4, 1964. They were blessed with three children, Weston, Wendy and Wynette.

Lloyd and Jane moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1964 and then to Escalante, Utah in 1965 where Lloyd worked for Jane's brother-in-law's company, Kelley Construction. They moved to Orogrande, New Mexico in 1966 where Lloyd worked as a roofer. In 1975, Lloyd and Jane moved back to Wyoming making their home in Manderson. Throughout his time in Manderson, he served on the town council, became mayor and volunteered with the Manderson Fire Department. Lloyd was a long term member of the Cloud Peak Bible Church of Manderson and had served as a Deacon and Trustee.

Lloyd started his own business, Lloyd's Roofing, which he owned and operated for 41 years. Lloyd could drive through the Big Horn Basin area and identify every roof that he had done. He employed many people who thought highly of him and he often would receive Thank You notes from his customers expressing their happiness with the work Lloyd and his crew completed.

In 1986, Lloyd attended the Western School of Auctioneering and was awarded the Young Auctioneer at his first auction calling contest. Lloyd was a long time member of the Wyoming Auctioneers Association. In 2007, he was crowned the Wyoming Auctioneers champion. Lloyd volunteered as an auctioneer for the Basin FFA, Hands Across the Saddle and other charitable organizations. Lloyd was also a Personal Property Appraiser and a member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America.

Lloyd is proceeded in death by his father, Harmon Dewey Franks; mother, Beulah Franks; sister, Francis Thomas; loving wife, Jane Luicille Franks. Lloyd is survived by his sister, Barbara Hossman of Denver, Co; sister, Beverly Moody of Gillette, Wy and several nieces and nephews. Son, Weston Franks (Ed Bohle) of Billings, Mt; daughter, Wendy Brown (Roger) of Casper, Wy; daughter, Wynette Culp (Kevin) of Worland, Wy. Six grandchildren: Daniel Culp (Erin), Jonathan Brown (Sarah), Trenton Culp (Anna), Christina Frausto (Joseph), Ashlyn Culp (Tyler Dahl) and Rachael Brown along with six great grandchildren.

Lloyd enjoyed spending time at his cabin in the Big Horn mountains, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and helping his friends with their latest projects. Lloyd loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren teaching them the value of a hard day's work. Memorials in Lloyd's name may be made to the Wyoming Auctioneer Association or to the Cloud Peak Bible Church.

A visitation will be held 4-7pm, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Atwood Chapel in Basin. Funeral Services will be held 10:30am, Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Cloud Peak Bible Church in Manderson with Pastor Don Wood officiating. Graveside services will follow at Mount View Cemetery in Basin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.
