Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Pretty Punchy, a country-western band comprised of brother and sister Levi and Jess Klemm, will take the stage at the Washakie County Fair on July 27 at 8 p.m. The pair plays acoustic guitar and sing, usually alternating on who gets to take lead every other song. Levi said you can expect from them smooth harmonies from 1970s, '80s and even '90s country-western songs that many will know, as well as some lesser known ones.
He added, "We have a handful of our songs that we'll perform, but mainly we do covers. We also like to try to support other smaller artists and get their stuff out there too."
Levi and Jess grew up with their family on a bison farm in Kansas, raised by an avid musician in their mother. She enrolled her children in music lessons from an early age. Jess stuck with music throughout her life, but Levi grew away from music until he was ready to go to college.
Jess, the older of the two, set the bar for Levi by pursuing a music degree at Northwest College in Powell. Levi ended up following her lead, and sang with his sister in college.
Some years later, Levi said that he picked up playing guitar and began to play venues by himself in Cody. Around 2019, Jess had been performing in a duo with another guy who had gotten injured in a car crash. Jess asked her brother to fill in for him, and the two have been playing together ever since.
He said, "We've really just grown together since then, and we've been getting more and more gigs every year."
When the two aren't playing music together, they are heavily involved in agriculture. Jess does crop insurance, and Levi works at a feedlot in Worland. Levi said that for fun, "We both love going to the mountains, camping, all that. Just anything horseback is what we love."
Something that people may not know about Jess is that she likes to run marathons. Levi said that although people don't think cowboys do winter sports, he likes to snowboard.
Don't miss the duo artists Pretty Punchy performing classic country music July 27 at the Washakie County Fairgrounds in Worland.
