Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Steven Craig Richard

Steven Craig Richard, 63, passed away at his home in Ingram, TX on July 15, 2023.

He was born to Stanley and Shirley Richard on January 22, 1960 in Worland, WY. Steve was born with a wandering spirit that he embraced throughout his whole life. He attended Worland schools and took an extended senior trip his senior year to Montana. He had an exciting young life, was extremely intelligent and liked to learn things the hard way. Sometimes a little too much. That would change later in his life.

He worked as a contractor, handyman, truck driver and a whole laundry list of other things. He was one of those guys that just understood how things work. Steve was gifted. He could fix about any problem. He had an inate ability to dream up plans and build something amazing. He was also known to many for his sense of humor, and was "Doodles the Clown", entertaining kids for many, many years. These talents, along with an incredible gift of gab and willingness to serve, ensured he was always in demand, especially with the older population. Steve was skilled in the art of lapidary and jewelry making, was a lifelong rockhound and collected tons, literally tons, of interesting rocks and made beautiful items out of them.

July 14, 1997 was a defining moment in his life. Steve found the Lord and decided it was time for a change. His health had declined rapidly and in 2003 he would leave Worland and be put on a lung transplant list. He waited 33 long months while living in Fort Collins, and later Cheyenne, as he waited for this precious gift. On July 29, 2006, his prayers were answered when he received the call that he would be a recipient of a double lung transplant. By the hand of God, his brother Jay happened to be in town, bringing him the last load of his belongings. He was a rockstar patient, healing and gaining strength that amazed the transplant team. He would often say, "With the strength of God on my side, I can get through anything". Seven days post transplant, he walked a full mile. Soon after, God put Lisa Lyons in his life, and they were married on that familiar day, July 14, 2007. Lisa was by his side until the day he took his last breath.

Steve was a man of God and was 100% ready for his next chapter in life, to meet his savior. He lovingly called this chapter, "The one where I get out of here". His lungs served him two weeks short of 17 years. He overcame all odds, astonishing doctors with every year.

Steve and Lisa relocated to Ingram, Texas in 2021, as the lower elevation was easier on his lungs. He was determined to get his beautiful bride set up and taken care of for when he went on his final journey. He was a man of great faith who was an amazing encourager and life cheerleader to those around him. He could see good where others could not, was full of knowledge and would advise anyone in need from his personal experiences.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Shirley Richard.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa of Ingram, TX; daughters, Sarah Sue Richard of Albuquerque, NM and Mandy (Joel) Humphreys of Laramie, WY; son, Gregory (Lisa) McClintock of Sheridan, WY; siblings, Terrill "Scott" (Sandy) Richard, Jason "Jay" (Dorothy) Richard both of Worland; half-siblings, Russ (Rose) Richard and Regina Dobson all of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren: Conner, Robin, Gavin and Libby, 7 grandchildren by choice through Lisa and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 4, 2023 at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel.
