From Lander to Worland – new teacher at South Side

Entering her sixth year of teaching, Jenae Nicholson decided to make the move to Worland to teach third grade at South Side Elementary this school year.

Nicholson, who grew up in Lander, found herself working in education while she was still in high school. During this time, she helped with after-school programs working with kids. Nicholson stated that her mother was also a teacher, so she grew up around education her whole life. After graduating high school and considering college, Nicholson said she felt compelled to study elementary education, given her previous experience.

Nicholson graduated from the University of Wyoming and then received her master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney two years ago. She had then taught first grade on the Wind River Reservation outside of Lander for five years up until this point. Now teaching third grade, Nicholson said that "it's a new ballgame for me."

Nicholson said she has been loving it so far though and she looks forward to continuing to learn with the kids as the year progresses.

After getting recently married, Nicholson and her husband entered a new chapter of their lives in Worland. They found it to be the perfect community that allowed them to stay close to their families, while also providing great opportunities for them to recreate outdoors and keep their German shepherd entertained, Nicholson said.

She added that she is grateful that Worland has been welcoming to her and she is loving her new community here.
