Edgar "Bud" Carlton King

Edgar Carlton King (Bud), 94 years old, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin, Wyoming. He had been under Hospice Care there for a couple of weeks. Prior to living there, he was a patient at the Worland Rehabilitation Center for two years.

Bud was born in Calgary, Canada on October 1, 1929. His parents were James Edgar King and Blanche Largent of Worland, Wyoming. They divorced when Bud was a toddler. Blanche then married Roy Glenn who helped raise Bud, his brother Bob, and sister Bebe. After graduating from Worland High School, Bud enlisted in the Navy. When he was stationed in Newport, RI, he frequented the USO Club. It was there that he met Evelyn, who would later become his wife. They loved dancing with one another, and their whirlwind relationship quickly developed.

Bud married Evelyn Mary Travers on June 10, 1950, in Tiverton, Rhode Island, at Saint Christopher's Catholic Church. After they were married in 1950, the couple resided in Tiverton for 2 years. They moved to Worland where Bud worked for Teeter's Furniture Store for 3 years. Bud then got a job with Marathon Oil Company where he was employed for the next 18 years. During his employment with Marathon Oil Company, the Kings lived in Byron and Lovell, Wyoming. The family then moved to Toledo, Ohio for a short time and then lived in Dayton, Ohio, until returning to Worland in the fall of 1973. Upon returning to Worland, Bud opened King's Karpet as a family business. Bud expanded King's Karpet in 1975, and another store was opened in Powell, Wyoming. Bud's 4 oldest sons managed and ran the store in Powell, and the 2 youngest sons worked with him in Worland and Bud's wife, Evie, was the receptionist and bookkeeper. In 1978, they opened the Worland Health Club, which brought the sport of racquetball to Worland.

Bud and Evie had seven children: Bob, (Anna) of Powell, Wyoming, Mike, (deceased) of Worland, Doug of Casper, Steve, (deceased) of Rock Springs, Mat, (Lisa) of Worland, Chuck (Kay) of Worland, and Cathy (Bruce) of Rock Springs. In addition, Bud and Evie have numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bud loved the game of golf and was an avid player. If he wasn't working and it was nice outside, you could catch him on the golf course. Bud was fortunate to have made what every golfer dreams of, a Hole-in-One. During the winter months, Bud enjoyed bowling. He was an above average bowler and was able to score the elusive perfect score of 300 at Pla Mor Lanes in Worland. Bud also loved nature, flyfishing, racquetball, and working on Crossword Puzzles.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife Evie of 60 years and his two sons Mike and Steve; mother, Blanche and stepfather Roy; brother, Bob and sister Bebe.

Funeral Services will be at Bryant Funeral Home on January 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm. A burial will follow immediately after the service at Riverview Memorial Garden's Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at http://www.bryant
