Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Dennis David Schmidt

Dennis David Schmidt, 66, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in Meeteetse, Wyoming.

Dennis was born on May 25, 1957 in Kearney, Nebraska to Donnie Dean Schmidt and Betty Jane Banks. He grew up in Gibbon, Nebraska working on the family farm until he was nine, when they moved to Meeteetse, Wyoming. Even as a child, he was always busy helping others and enjoyed going to church with his family. While in Meeteetse, he worked on the family ranch and the Sunshine Ranch. He graduated from Meeteetse High School in 1976.

In 1978, he met the love of his life, Katherine Ann Colton. On June 1, 1979 they were married and shortly after, they welcomed their daughter, Bobbi Jo. Dennis enjoyed fatherhood so much that he took the first two months off of work to stay home with his girls. He had his own construction business for many years and he was a master at what he did. He built beautiful homes and did many remodels over the course of his life. Later, he was employed driving trucks for different companies. Most recently he worked for Vista trucking in Worland.

In 2000, Dennis's first granddaughter, Taylor Jo, was born. Dennis and Kathie raised Taylor for the first eleven years of her life. In 2008, they moved to Worland, Wyoming. Shortly after their daughter, Bobbi was reunited with them and they welcomed their second granddaughter Addisyn Grace into the world. Dennis was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and was a very hard worker and faithful provider. He loved spending time with his girls, taking them hunting, fishing, trapping, horse-back riding, and going to football games. He also enjoyed teaching them how to do many different things he had learned while doing construction and mechanics. In 2017, Dennis made a profession of faith and received Christ as his Lord and Savior. Ever since then, he was involved in the church and tried to make church life a priority in his own life. He was well-known for jumping in to help others with projects, giving advice, and telling many stories from his own life. He took such good care of his wife and took the opportunity to dance her around the kitchen whenever he could.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father Donnie; brother, LaVerne.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathie; mother, Betty Jane Schmidt of Stevinson, California; daughter, Bobbi Jo (Nathan) Douglas of Worland; sister, Linda Louise Schmidt of Stevinson, California; grandchildren: Taylor Jo Lind and Addisyn Grace Roady along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind many life-long friends and church family.
