New Worland recovery group welcoming members

In hopes of helping others in recovery, Worland resident Megan Lathrop recently started the recovery support group, “Reach for Recovery.”

Lathrop said that she has been in recovery since 2019 and after finishing probation, she said, “I spent the next few years building back my life […] and getting back into the community.”

While searching for support in the community, Lathrop said she found Worland to be lacking in recovery support groups not affiliated with other organizations. Because of this, Lathrop said she started Reach for Recovery and hosted the first meeting on Jan. 6, 2024.

According to Lathrop, Reach for Recovery is, “an open meeting, not based on any curriculum or religion. It’s just a place for people that are looking for support in their recovery, whether they’re two days sober, two years or 20 years.”

Lathrop added that the support group is not just for people in recovery, but for people wanting to help others in their lives going through recovery as well.

“My goal for this group is to build relationships and connections, and healthy friendships,” said Lathrop when talking about how the recovery process can be lonely for many people.

Aside from weekly meetings, Lathrop said she is planning for the group to participate in an activity together once a month, such as movie nights, barbecues and potlucks.

“Recovery doesn’t have to be boring,” said Lathrop.

Reach for Recovery meets every Saturday from 5 to 6 p.m., 1115 Obie Sue.
