Roscoe's Ramblings: What to chase and not to chase, that is the question

Hi folks. It’s been a while since last I touched base. A lot has happened, especially with my relationship with Tigger.

Tigger started going on walks with us and Dad would make sure I stayed right with him so as not to be tempted to chase Tigger. That was so hard. I mean I am a dog and Tigger is, well, a cat. It is instinct.

Tigger would not go on walks with Mom and us until just last week. I think he was leery since Mom lets me run all over chasing birds. I love spring, birds are everywhere. I still have not been able to catch any though.

I did catch a mouse though and Dad was right there and so proud. I received a lot of attaboys that day. Plus showing up the cats that I too can catch mice was an added bonus.

Apparently young bunnies on the property are also off limits. How was I to know. Made Mom and Dad sad though.

So many rules to remember.

There have been a couple of fun things happening this spring (besides the birds, did I mention the birds are back and I love to chase them).

Dad is retired so he is home a lot more and that means more walks and less time alone, which has been great.

The other is Dad got Mom a bicycle as an early birthday present so they could go riding together. This bicycle actually goes places unlike the one she rides in the morning in her home office.

Sometimes they go across the highway and ride but for about a week, when Dad was in Arizona, Mom just rode around the property and that was great fun as Shadow and I would run with her. OK I would run with her and Shadow would try. Ivy would wander and watch.

I learned fairly quickly that I need to run alongside Mom and not in front because sometimes I do not run as fast as she rides and she buzzed my tail with her tire. How rude! It did not hurt so now I pretty much know her route and usually run ahead of her, at the side, of course.

Ivy one time came out to greet Mom on the bicycle I was waiting for a crash but Mom avoided Ivy, how I am not sure, and avoided crashing. Ivy does not go and greet Mom anymore while she is riding.

We are all learning as we go on this new adventure.

While Dad was gone we took a trip to the Gooseberry Badlands to check out the new trail. It’s a wonderful place, despite the wind that day, but at the bottom the wind was not bad and there were a lot of new smells for us three to check out.

We have also been playing dot a lot, especially on laundry days as there is more room downstairs for the three of us to play. I go after the red dot with gusto and I think I have caught it a time or two but it seems to always escape or maybe there are just too many to catch.

Ivy just likes to follow it around like she is mesmerized by it. Occasionally she tries to catch it.

Shadow just tries to herd it now and then. Typical border collie.

I can’t wait to see what fun things we get to do this summer, especially with Dad not working. I wonder what other things I will learn and what animals I will find that I cannot chase. Skunks, bunnies and Tigger, bad. Birds, red dot and mice are OK.

Every day is an adventure and I am enjoying the one I am on.
