Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Want to serve your community and have time to devote to the City of Worland or Washakie County?
Now is the time to step up and throw your proverbial hat into the ring and run for city council, county commissioner or mayor. You can even run for a state legislative seat or U.S. congressional seat.
There are plenty of opportunities to serve and filing continues for one more week, ending at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 31.
There is already a race for Republican nominations for the lone county commission seat up this year, for the U.S. Senate, for Senate District 20 and House District 27, and there is a two-way race at present for Worland mayor; but there is still room on the ballot for you.
As of press time, no one had filed for council. So City of Worland residents, now is the time if you have thought about running or have thought about learning more about the inner workings of government, or even if you have thought you could do better.
Before you decide to file, however, remember to ask yourself if you have the time to serve. While these are not full-time positions, they are more than just one or two meetings a month. There is time devoted to devoted to preparing for meetings, talking to constituents, doing research and much more.
When the filing is done my hope for the candidates who are seeking office is that you are running to serve your community, your county, your state or your country.
We do not need candidates who are running against someone. We not need negative campaigning.
I want to hear from candidates on what you would like to do, not what you perceive your opponent will or will not do, or what they have or have not done.
You are running for office so tell me what you will do.
Remember, commission candidates file with the county clerk’s office, municipal races file with the city clerk and legislative and congressional candidates file with the Secretary of State’s office.
Good luck to those who have already filed and who are going to file. We appreciate your willingness to serve if given the opportunity.
