Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Food, fun and music highlight this year's Culturefest in Worland this Saturday.
This is the 14th year the Worland Community Center has organized the annual event and Sheryl Ley said she has multiple food vendors and plenty of entertainment for the family.
New this year will be a mechanical bull. There is a small fee to ride, she noted.
Back this year will be the bouncy houses and slides. There is a fee for the rides. This year the inflatable entertainment comes from a vendor in Sheridan, Ley said.
Food vendors this year include The Other Store; Pizza Hut; cotton candy from WCCC; Mexican food from Paula Pacheco, Doña Elena's and Emma Vega; O.W.L. Unlimited will have corn dogs, onion rings and funnel fries; Arctic Ice shaved ice and as part of their scholarship fundraiser Security State Bank will be selling hot dog or polish dog meals and ice cream.
In addition to the mechanical bull and bouncy houses, Security State Bank will have a dunk book, with Washakie County Sheriff Austin Brookwell getting dunked from noon to 1 p.m.
There will be some smaller kids carnival games to play for free. The dunk book will have a fee as the fundraiser for the employee scholarships awarded, according to Security State Bank Operations Manager Becky Martinez.
Ley said there will be other vendors selling items and there is still room for vendors to get a booth at Culturefest. Contact Ley at 347-8616.
She noted this year she also has several candidates who will be in attendance.
MUSIC
This year, Ley said, there are three musical groups performing.
Jeff Troxel returns to Culturefest, initially performing last year. He will perform at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Jeff Troxel of Cody is an award-winning guitarist who crosses musical boundaries, according to his biography from the Wyoming Arts Council. His performances showcase his songwriting and mastery of guitar that earned him flatpicking championships in Wyoming, Utah and the 2003 National Flatpicking Championship.
According to his biography on his website, Troxel plays the guitar, writes music for guitar, teaches guitar and writes books about guitar.
Liam and Layne Jordan will perform at noon. This is their second year performing. They perform cover songs from different genres including folk, country, alternative and classic rock. They also play several original songs. They have been a familiar sound at Nowoodstock and will be returning to the Ten Sleep music festival this August.
The Jordans of Hyattville have also joined with the Blutt brothers, Matthew and Nicholas, of Ten Sleep to form LLMN (pronounced lemon). LLMN, a teenage band with Liam Jordan (lead guitar), Layne Jordan (rhythm guitar, vocals), Matthew Blutt (drums) and Nicholas Blutt (bass), will perform at 2:30 p.m.
They have an eclectic mix from Waylon Jennings to Tom Petty, Benson Boone to the Foo Fighters.
Ley said she knows there are other activities going on in the Big Horn Basin, but encourages people to come out to the family-friendly event.
LLMN is also set to perform in Ten Sleep on Thursday and Friday, July 4-5 for the 8 p.m. street dances.
The weather is forecast to be sunny with a high around 85.
