Public Health to provide tent for mothers and babies at county fair

Angela Leone from Washakie County Public Health approached the Washakie County Fair Board Monday in a special meeting to find out about the possibility of putting up a lactation tent for mothers during fair week.

She said they need a 5-foot by 5-foot space for the tent. There will be a rocking camp chair, portable table, battery operated combination light and fan and donated wipes and diapers.

Leone said it is a place for mothers to change diapers, nurse their babies or have a quiet moment.

The tent and contents will be “fully the responsibility of Public Health.”

She said Public Health plans to have the tent available at many events in Washakie County to show people it is available. Organizers of events can also request the tent.

The board approved a motion to allow the tent to be available all week.

In other news at the fair board meeting:

•The Renegades 4-H Club will be handing out Otterpops a few days during fair week, rather than during the parade.

•Board member Dani Rice said she was approached about having a prayer service during fair week. The board asked Rice to get more details before their next meeting, Monday, July 1.

•Tim Young emailed Chairman Jeff Lapp about what he needed to do to bring the children’s train to the fair. Lapp will email Young that he must fill out a vendor form and pay additional $100 for being after deadline.

They will also need to provide a copy of their insurance to the Washakie County Attorney’s Office.

•The annual clean-up day will start at 5 p.m. on July 17. Dinner will be provided.

•Rice said the Ten Sleep Recreation District approved the offer for the movie screen, but Rice wants to make sure everything is working before they complete the purchase.

The board will be meeting at 7 p.m. every Monday night until the Washakie County Fair begins.

Fair week is July 20-27, starting with the horse show and cornhole tournament on Saturday, July 20, and ending Saturday, July 27 with the Thompson Square concert.
