Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Betty Lou (Brown) Hecht

Betty Lou (Brown) Hecht, 90, passed away on June 20, 2024, at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Worland, Wyoming.

Betty was born on November 14, 1933, to Arlo and Ella (Grable) Brown in Worland. She fell in love with Owen Hecht, who was serving in the Army National Guard at that time. She and both sets of parents traveled to Seattle, Washington, so that the couple could be married before he shipped out to fight in the Korean War. When Owen came home, two children were added to their family, Kathryn Kay in 1952 and David Owen in 1954. Betty worked as a bookkeeper for Stockgrowers' State Bank and Edward's Motor Company. The couple was inseparable! They bowled together on a couples league. (She also went on several out-of-state trips with her ladies' team). They tried golf for several years. Wintertime meant traveling to the West Coast and staying for six weeks in Pismo Beach.

They explored every back road they could find, enjoying nature as they drove. Betty talked Owen into trying his hand at wood carving. He was a natural and she would painstakingly paint each of the birds he carved. These works of art became cherished gifts to family members. Betty also enjoyed crewel embroidery and counted cross stitch, making several beautiful pictures for her daughter. She also did chip carving, faceted gemstones, and knitted sweaters and quilts for her grandkids. Her hands were always busy. She will be greatly missed.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Gerald (Tuffy) Brown and Richard Brown and her sister, Virginia Brown.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn (Ted) Propp, son, David (Kathy) Hecht, grandchildren: Steve (Kellie) Propp, Jennifer (Jerel) Bayes, and Jessica Harris; great-grandchildren, Micheal and Katie Bayes and Cheyenne and Reese Harris.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Humane Society and sent to PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. Online condolences may be made at http://www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
