The News Editorial: Summer fun in full swing

Summer officially began last Thursday with the summer solstice and with it comes the busy time of summer for special events in Washakie County.

This weekend is the annual Culturefest celebration at the Worland Community Center Complex back lawn. There will be food, fun and music for the whole family. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also Saturday is an antique show and community yard sale in the parking lot of the Washakie Cinemas.

The following week is Ten Sleep's annual Fourth of July celebration with parade, rodeo, craft show, street dance on Thursday and rodeo and street dance on Friday.

The Washakie Farmers Market kicks off the next weekend on July 13 with the free pancake breakfast. The Farmers Market will run every Saturday through September from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ninth and Big Horn Avenue in Worland.

The Washakie County Fair kicks off the next weekend on July 20 with the horse show and the first Washakie County Fair Cornhole Tournament. Fair runs all week with the parade, junior livestock show, rhubarb rhevival, Strut Your Mutt and Thompson Square all on the final Saturday, July 27.

If July is not packed full of enough fun for you then let's try August.

Nowoodstock in Ten Sleep will be Aug. 9-11 and the annual Pepsi Wyoming BBQ Championship and Bluegrass Festival is the following weekend of Aug. 16-17.

If Washakie County's offerings is not enough our neighboring communities have plenty of events as well including Big Horn and Hot Springs county fairs July 27-Aug. 4. Thermopolis will also have it's traditional Wedding of the Waters Pageant and Parade and Discovery Days. This year Discovery Days includes a fundraising concert with 8 Second Ride on Aug. 2.

All of the upcoming events are family friendly, community-oriented and are the culmination of a lot of planning and hard work of volunteers. (Note, these events and organizations are always looking for volunteers so if you have the time and have ideas feel free to join in on the planning.) Best of all they all take place right here, in your neighborhood, in your community, not much travel needed.

So this summer take some time and show support of the volunteers and organizations by attending one, some or all of the upcoming events.

You will enjoy visiting with neighbors, friends, make some new friends, enjoy some good food, all while having a heckuva good time in your community.
