Celebrate the Fourth in the Big Horn Basin

There are several opportunities on Thursday to celebrate Independence Day. There will be fireworks displays in Thermopolis, at Boysen State Park, Manderson and in Greybull among many other activities.

In Thermopolis, the Hot Springs County Democratic Party will have a free ice cream social at 2 p.m. in the Hot Springs State Park. Wyoming Discovery Days will be sponsoring Freedom Fest from 5:30 to 10 p.m. There will be live music, food and dancing. Bring your own chair and enjoy the fireworks display from the downtown area. The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department will set off the display at dark off of the old airport runway.

The Boysen Marina will be doing their annual fireworks display from the big island in Boysen Reservoir, also at about dark. Live music by the Cowboy Hippies will be at the Marina.

The Thermopolis Police Department reminds residents that fireworks are not allowed by the skate park/baseball fields but the town council is allowing fireworks from noon to 11 p.m. on Thursday, the Fourth of July.

In a Facebook post, the department asks residents to “use their best judgment for some areas within city limits. Some open fields in town are not appropriate for shooting on or near, especially where the grass is tall and getting dry. This is the first year for this opportunity. If you decide to use our streets for launching fireworks, please make sure to clean your area.”

Greybull will have its Fourth of July celebration starting at 6 p.m. in the town park. There will be music from Rattlesnake Ridge, food vendors and games. The fireworks show begins at 10 p.m.

In Manderson, the Hi Way Bar and Café will have a fireworks show starting at 10 p.m.

Basin does not have a

fireworks show planned but residents may shoot off fireworks within town limits from noon to midnight on private property only. Fireworks are not allowed to be shot off in parks or city streets.
