Write-in nominees fill out Worland City Council races

There were seven write-in nominations from Tuesday’s primary election with five indicating they will accept the nominations and run for seats in Ward 1 and Ward 2.

Heading into the Aug. 20 primary election, no one filed to be on the ballot for the four-year Ward 1 seat.

There was a total vote of 49 write-in votes cast, but only two qualified candidates — Bill Glanz and Jeff Pomeroy. Both have accepted the nomination. Bill Glanz received 14 votes, Pomeroy 4 votes. A candidate must have a minimum of three write-in nominations.

In Ward 2, no one filed for the two-year seat and only one candidate, Wendy Fredricks had filed for one of the two four-year seats.

There were 71 write-in votes for the two-year seat and 42 for the four-year seats.

Sheryl Ley and Terry Batt have both accepted nominations for the two-year seat. Ley received 16 votes. Batt received 13 votes.

Wendy Fredricks was on the ballot and received 420 votes for one of the four-year seats.

Lawrence Meier, Mandy Horath, Kassie Nolting accepted write-in nominations for the four-year seats with Meier earning 15 write-in votes, Horath, 10 and Nolting, 9.

Only two candidates for each seat advance to the general election in non-partisan races, because of this Barbara Burgess, with just 5 write-in votes, was not contacted regarding her nomination.

This year the voter turnout was 2,305 or about 64.4% of Washakie County’s total registered voters.
