Since premium checks have not been cashed in a timely manner in the past, the Washakie County Fair Board decided to pay premiums with cash instead of checks at their regular meeting on Sept. 9.
The board discussed how best to pay the premiums won at the 2024 Washakie County Fair, which are paid at the time youth turn in their record books. The board opted to pay premiums with cash since sometimes youth forget to deposit or cash checks, leaving the funds outstanding in the Fair Board’s books.
OTHER BUSINESS
Other business at Monday’s meeting, included a discussion to hire a person to assist in the office.
It was noted that there have been inquiries from outside sources regarding renting the fair board’s movie screen for a fundraising event.
Washakie County 4-H and Youth Extension Educator Amber Armajo informed the board that there is a good chance that the state fair will be changing its health paper program in the near future. Health certificates, printed or digital has been a discussion point in the past for the board.
Armajo noted that was a significant number of animals that did not have tags because the tags had fallen off.
A need for additional display shelves for the open class entries was discussed. The idea of having a separate display for the entries of young people was suggested by open class superintendent Becky Lamb during the meeting.
There will be a further discussion at the next meeting regarding new cages for chickens as well as rabbits that have litter pans inside them.
