Ten Sleep Rec District seeks to clean up 'island'

The Ten Sleep Recreation District is soliciting bids to tidy up the island near the park along Tensleep Creek, according to a report presented at the Ten Sleep Town Council meeting Sept. 3.

The foliage, brush, underbrush and the bushes along the creek and on the island are of particular concern. When the splash pad was installed 12 years ago, the then president, Rachel Casteel, cleared the entire island and planted trees. There were two suggestions for clearing the foliage. There is the possibility of bringing goats to the island. They discussed the possibility of constructing a temporary bridge as well.

Additionally, Matt Jones will provide an estimate for clearing the area with chainsaws. He could possibly recruit students from the high school to help. Their intention is to make it an annual event. If the foliage can be tidied up, they would like to install a picnic table and build a footbridge on the island. Property owners would need to be contacted for some of the suggested work to proceed.

From December through March, the recreational district will assume responsibility for the payment of the portable toilets in the park. They will be used at the ice-skating rink for the benefit of the public.

Leah Linster reported that CJ Grimes has been hired as the facilitator for the recreational district. The position is part-time and involves contract work as well as grant writing. The district has submitted two grants since Linster became president.
