Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Donald Day

Life-long Wyoming resident, Don Day was called home on September 10, 2024, with his wife by his side. Don was born on October 15, 1946, in Torrington, Wyoming. His parents, Edna (Lind) and Ernest H. (Casey) Day raised him and his sister, Deanna in Alcova, Wyoming. As a child, Don began hunting with his father, continuing to become an avid hunter and fisherman through the majority of his life.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as part of the 4th Infantry Division. When he returned home, he met the love of his life, Ann Turner, at the Commissary Mall in Casper, Wyoming. She may not have made any commission that day but on February 19, 1972, she gained a husband! They had three children: Casey, Jamie and Kristy.

Don was a strong provider for his family. He began his career at Dave Johnson Power Plant where he started as a janitor, then moved up to the position of power plant operator. He later worked at the Jim Bridger Power Plant in Green River. The family settled in Worland, Wyoming in 1984 when Don took a job with Rocky Mountain Power, retiring in 2002. After his retirement, he began his best years of employment as a special education para-educator at West Side and East Side Schools.

He was an avid nature-lover. You could often find him fishing by the Big Horn River; in Yellowstone or other beautiful locations, with his camera ready to capture pictures of flowers and wildlife.

Don had a strong relationship with Christ. He and his family would attend church, and every meal began with a prayer.

Throughout his life, he was very connected to serving others. He was a 4-H leader (rifle and shotgun). He helped his young children raise their 4-H livestock, cooked amazing baked goods for many church events, and took part in the Big Brother Program.

Don was a man of many hobbies, he had great skill in woodturning, wine making, cheese smoking, and picture taking. He loved animals and had many dogs and cats throughout his life. He found his final furry companionship with his dog, Buddy.

Don leaves this world a very loved man. His wife, family and friends will miss him dearly. He was met in Heaven by his parents, Edna and Casey Day, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. He leaves behind his wife, Ann Day; children: Casey (Amy) Day, Jamie (Matthew) Leslie, and Kristy (David) Genetti; grandchildren: Teagan and Kaytreann Day, Kiera Leslie, Emma and Eli Genetti; sister Deanna (Bill) Hardy and their children Anna, Jason, and Laura Hardy.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Crosspoint Baptist Church in Worland with Pastor Fred Smith officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don's name to the Worland Senior Center, New Hope Humane Society, or Washakie County 4-H. Checks may be sent to PO Box 524, Worland, Wyoming 82401.
