Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

U.S. Senate Candidate Profile: Scott Morrow - Democrat

Where do you currently reside and how long have you lived in Wyoming?

I am in West Laramie. I have resided here in Laramie, on and off since 2004 when I retired from the USPSBS. All told from 2004 to 2024 I have lived in Laramie all except the 9 years in Leadville, Colorado.

Why are you running for Senate?

For the past decade I have served as the president of the largest Retiree Chapter chartered by the American Postal Workers Union in this geographic area. Before that I was active in Wyoming politics and our Congressional Delegation when one of our Senators was the at large House seat!

During that time, I have noticed that our Congressional Delegation votes 100% of the time against my hundreds and hundreds of current constituents despite our pleas by phone, letters and email for support from our Congressional Delegations. The last time I spoke with my favorite Barrasso staffer, Gregory, he suggested it might be better if I was so disappointed in my Senator if I ran for the Senate. Two days later, the Wyoming Democratic Party called me to run for Senate. For me, it was a sign that I was destined to run no matter if I was retired for the past 20 years.

Since I have no compensation for being the president of the chapter, working at becoming the next Senator from the great state of Wyoming is normal for me. Everyone I talk to in this state, regardless of party, is in favor of term limits. I am the answer to limiting the term of Barrasso to just 18 years. He votes 100% for the rich and powerful, 100% of the time for tax cuts for the rich, 100% of the time against tax cuts for the middle class and poor, 100% of the time against health care, 100% of the time against lowering drug prices for Americans who pay the highest prices by far in the world for life saving medications. He votes 83% of the time against women and equality. More recently, he voted against codifying Roe, against birth control rights, against IVF, against extending the time to get the Equal Rights Amendment across the line and lowering drug prices (117th congress). These figures are compiled just since the 115th Congress by "politics that work" and independently verified by both the Library of Congress and Senate.gov. I cannot sit idly by while the incumbent Senator is entirely disingenuous with his constituents most of the time and votes 100% of the time against the current POTUS judicial nominations. Of the over 200 federal judge nominees, Barrasso could not find a single one he considered qualified to be on the federal bench. During the previous POTUS, every judicial nominee he voted for including those deemed unqualified by the American Bar Association. The people of Wyoming deserve better than that.

What are THE 2 most important issues facing our country that you hope to help address if elected?

Well, since I will be representing all of Wyoming, equality is the first most important issue. This issue is a big tent. First, one would assume that we had achieved equality in the equality state, yet nothing could be further from reality. Just last year, after Dobbs (see 597 U.S. 215 (2022)}, our legislature tried to strip freedom from over half the state's population in direct violation of Article One, Section 38 of the Wyoming Constitution. Equality means all Wyomingites should enjoy those protections in the Wyoming Constitution, not just men. Women deserve equal health care rights, equal pay and equal treatment under the law. Everyone does. Not surprisingly, the Wyoming Ninth District Court issued a temporary restraining order on the unconstitutional law. The same thing happened with our governor unilaterally banning medication, only taken by women. Today in Wyoming, mostly women servers, have a minimum wage of $2.13 an hour and have not had a raise for 28 years. The minimum wage is a federal statute under the Federal Labor Standards Act. It can be fixed by Congress if subsequently signed by the POTUS. The American Association of University Women aver that women still make 84 cents on the dollar compared to men for the same work. I have numerous legislative fixes to the issue that will be fully financed as to not add to the national deficits and debt.

Eliminating and banning poverty and hunger in Wyoming and the USA. It is insane that in Wyoming 37%, almost half, of the population are poor folks. Many without health care, sufficient food and nutrition much less a union job to pull them out of poverty. The supplemental poverty measure for the USA was over 12% in the richest country in the history of the world.

Do you feel you are able to work across party lines to find solutions to issues for the betterment of the country?

Feeling will have nothing to do with working across the aisle to get legislation passed that helps average Wyomingites and Americans. Hard work will. For example, the bipartisan child enhanced tax credit that lifted over a third of Wyoming children out of poverty and subsequently sunsetted was passed because the Democratic Caucus understood you do not and cannot get everything you want when legislating. So did many Republicans that got three new tax cuts for business in the deal. You must be prepared and willing to compromise. Unfortunately, the Republican Leadership that includes Barrasso is blocking making the credit permanent.

I look forward to working With Senator Lummis on numerous bills. I know it sounds too simple but

I will be at a distinct advantage because like most Wyomingites I am a proponent of term limitations so I am only committing to one term. You ask how does that help me to reach across the aisle? Most folks in Congress seem to have a top priority of winning the next election, getting another term. Have you noticed they spend more time dialing for dollars than legislating? I will be unconstrained by dialing for dollars because with a single term, I do not have to. If you think about it, it completely rids me of the burden of if I work with so and so, I could lose the next election. 100% of my focus is on Wyoming people who like me, live paycheck to paycheck.

I am guessing, not promising, that my circumstance will make me the most effective representative from the State of Wyoming to reach across the aisle.
