Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Jeff Pomeroy – Ward 1 – Four-Year Term

How long have you lived in Worland?

3 wonderful years.

Why are you running for Worland City Council?

Worland is great place to live, and I believe we're all in this together. We are a community that values freedom first and foremost. We may have some differences, but I believe we have much more in common. What makes this community strong is we the people, from the downtown businesses to our neighborhoods we are all the heart and soul of Worland. We need downtown revitalization; we also need a long-term plan for neighborhoods. A plan that promotes sustainable economic development, strong parks and a sense of identity of Worland to the outside world.

I'm running for City Council to help make Worland even better place to call home than it is now. To create opportunities for our youth, our businesses and our seniors. Also to help spur the growth of Worland, Wyoming, by getting the word out to the rest of the country how great this place is and why they should bring their businesses and families here.

A community will either thrive or die, we want to thrive. And I want to be part of that to help bring solutions and growth into Worland. Together with the other City Council members and the members of our community we will thrive.

So why I'm I running for City Council? I love Wyoming and I love the people of Worland. It is the people that makes this place special.

Do you feel you have the time it takes to serve on the Worland City Council?

Yes I do, I'm self-employed and I will make the time for Worland.

With rising costs and ever tightening budgets, how would you address increasing revenues or cutting costs for the City?

One of the best ways to increase revenue is creating opportunities for our business and for new folks to bring businesses into Worland. Every one of us on the city council need to carefully look at the budget, cut where we can when possible. Worland needs growth to thrive.

Would rate increases be a part of that?

NO, I do not believe we need to put any extra burden on the members of our community with additional taxes and regulations especially at this time.

Currently the one-cent optional general purpose sales tax is earmarked for street improvements. Is this the best use of these funds or do you feel funding should be directed to another area? If so what area or areas?

I would agree to keep the 1 cent sales tax as a temporary tax for improvements for city streets. However, I do not agree that this one cent sales tax should be used or moved around or earmarked for any other purpose. This is the people's money of Worland, we need to be using it wisely and when the improvements are complete we need to say no more on the extra tax.

Do you feel city mayor and council should focus on social issues, recreational issues, basic services or a combination of those?

I believe the City Council members need to focus on all the issues above for the betterment of our community.

What role should the city play in helping fill empty downtown storefronts? What type of incentives might be included in recruiting businesses?

The City Council should have a strong role in helping revitalize downtown Worland. Everything from town halls so that we can be getting input from our neighbors, friends and all community members. We need to look at all options including incentives from tax breaks for businesses, breaks on regulations, affordable housing and the benefits of living and working in Worland. We need to be looking at working together with our real estate agents in the area, our banks, water, power and others as well in the community.

The bottom line is as the City Council we need to SELL Worland, we need to be the biggest cheerleader of why Worland is one of the best communities to live in, to raise a family in, to grow a business in and why Worland Wyoming is the place to THRIVE IN. The dream is the great state of Wyoming and the place to be is in Worland.
