Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Barbara McMorran (Murdoch) Miller passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024.
Barbara was born on December 10, 1932, in Worland, Wyoming. Her parents were William and Adeline (Neiber) Murdoch and grandparents, Bernard and Mary Neiber, proprietors of the Neiber Stage Stop in Washakie County. She was the third of six children. In her youth Barbara spent many summers working with her father and brothers on the family-owned sheep business in the Owl Creek Mountains. She graduated from Washakie County High School in 1951. Barbara married Elmer Miller in 1957 and soon moved to the family farm where she lived and made her home for over sixty-eight years. From this union they welcomed five children.
Like most mothers and grandmothers, her favorite past time was spending time with her family. She made life fun for her children and grandchildren and had a way of making each one feel valued and special. Her home was a gathering place for many celebrations including festive holidays, birthdays, weddings, picnics, and any other reason to get together as a family. She had a knack for knowing people and the history of Washakie County. Barbara belonged to a sewing group of lady friends that met once a week for over forty years. She served on the Washakie County Fair Board for many years and was also a Girl Scout leader. She was a lifelong member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and a two-time cancer survivor. In her later years she loved when family or friends would call or drop by to chat and reminisce.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Anna (Greg) Bradshaw, Ruth (Ernie) Geis, Jennifer (Dave) Zimmer, Bruce (Gina) Miller all of Worland, and Barbara (David) Rangitsch of Saratoga, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Nancy Miller of Powell, Wyoming, and sister-in-law Dawn Murdoch of Cody, Wyoming; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
In death, she joins her husband, Elmer, grandson, Aidan Miller, parents, and siblings, Mary Jane Schmeltzer, Grace A Miller, David Murdoch and Bill Murdoch.
Funeral services will be for family only and burial will take place at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland, WY. Memorials can be made to Worland Senior Center for Meals on Wheels. Checks may be sent to PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. Online condolences may be made at http://www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
