Worland Middle School launches new FFA chapter

In an exciting development for local students, Worland Middle School has officially established its own FFA chapter, spearheaded by agriculture education teacher and FFA advisor Audrey Crockett.

Crockett initiated this chapter with the aim to help engage middle school students with the fundamentals of agriculture and prepare them for future success in high school FFA programs.

Crockett actively participated in FFA during her high school years in Thermopolis, where she earned her State FFA Degree. She is now using her experiences to guide the new chapter.

The chapter has become an official FFA chapter recognized by both the Wyoming State FFA and the national organization. This recognition allows students to participate in competitions and develop skills that will serve them in their future endeavors.

"It gives them [students] an additional two years, through my program, to practice and prepare and learn everything that FFA entails so that when they're at the high school level, and they're competing in FFA, they're winning state titles and they're getting scholarships, and they're figuring out how to get school paid for," Crockett stated.

To establish the chapter, Crockett went through an extensive application process, working with Wyoming State FFA Director Stacy Broda. The process involved submitting the chapter's constitution, bylaws and a program of activities. After receiving approval from the national organization in Indianapolis, Indiana, the chapter was officially recognized, and Worland Middle School was assigned its chapter code. The chapter will carry the name “Worland Middle School FFA.”

According to Crockett, between 20 and 45 students are involved in the new Worland Middle School FFA chapter. To participate in FFA, students must be enrolled in Crockett's agriculture class.

Looking ahead, the Worland Middle School FFA chapter is focused on obtaining funding to enable students to attend state contests and engage in community activities. Their inaugural project will be participating in an Agricultural Science Fair Feb. 24, which will allow students to showcase their learning and creativity.
