Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
For those in the spirit of giving this holiday season, think about New Hope Humane Society's "Paws to Help" program, a way to provide lasting support to animals without a home.
Volunteer Deb Coronado said, "The animals here are often neglected and forgotten; it takes a lot to provide for them, and we rely on the passion of animal lovers to help. Community donations help our animals to live comfortably until they get adopted; for those pets we have who aren't suitable for adoption, donations help us meet their needs as long as they stay here."
She added, "Adoption is our main goal for these animals, but if someone already has pets of their own or can't have pets, this is a perfect way they can still help out."
To sponsor an animal through Paws to Help, you can visit the shelter to pick out an animal you'd like to help, or just declare a general sponsorship. When you sign up, the shelter will set up automated monthly withdrawals from a bank account you provide. Donations are $25 monthly. You can sponsor multiple, and donations will increase in $25 increments for each sponsorship.
Coronado spoke about how funds from Paws to Help are used, saying, "The money generated through sponsorships will go towards extra needs at the shelter; it doesn't go to salaries, building operations or other general expenses. Some animals have conditions that require medicine, and occasionally we like to purchase new pet furniture and toys. The money will help with things like that, going above and beyond our other fundraisers."
There are several ways to find out more about this sponsorship opportunity and what it means to sponsor an animal. Coronado will have a booth at the Last Stop Shop Christmas Craft Show on Dec. 14 at the Washakie County Fairgrounds to promote the program, and you can e-mail her at [email protected].
