New member joins County Fair Board

David Ray was officially welcomed as the latest member of the Washakie County Fair Board during their regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 13.

The board also undertook the election of its leadership positions. Jeff Lapp will continue to serve as chair, Marty Cross has assumed the role of vice chair, Beth Shaffer will serve as treasurer, and Dani Rice will serve as secretary. David Ray takes over for Sherry Walter whose term ended Dec. 31.

In other business at Monday’s meeting:

Casey Rice presented his bid for the enhancement and installation of a new sound system. The Fair Board will procure the necessary equipment, while Rice has volunteered to handle the installation pro bono. Given the anticipated costs of the equipment, a motion was unanimously approved to request the Washakie County Commissioners to place this funding issue on their agenda for the upcoming meeting.

Washakie County 4-H Educator Amber Armajo provided an update on the cattle tagging system discussed during the previous open meeting. She clarified that participants can use either the 800 or 900 series tags, both of which will be acceptable at the state fair. Armajo opted to procure the 900 series tags for her group.

Breck Buer, the maintenance supervisor for Washakie County, attended to coordinate a walkthrough of the fairgrounds. This walkthrough is designed to allow board members to identify and discuss necessary repairs or improvements. It has been scheduled for Feb. 1.

The meeting concluded with an closed/executive session regarding personnel; however, according to Dani Rice, no action was taken after the closed

session.
