Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Dick Andrew Gifford

Dick died at his home on January 8th, 2025 in Lovell, WY. Dick was born on February 21st, 1945 to Andy and Lillian Gifford from Crystal Creek. Dick lived a full life as a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend to all, and most of all a true cowboy!

Growing up at Crystal Creek instilled a deep love of ranching and rodeo. This love, and his mother and father's emphasis on education took him to Northwest College and the University of Wyoming. Dick rode saddle bronc, participated in FFA, and, we assume, had a wild time along the college trail.

Dick and his second wife Cathy Fuller raised three boys, Aron Schmidt and Brad and Casey Gifford in Cowley and Lovell. Their home was an extension of Crystal Creek: anyone was always welcome. Countless friends of Dick's kids would often fill their home for meals and good times. We're pretty sure he owned the title of "Best pancakes in town."

Dick's involvement in rodeo spanned his entire life. His love for the horses was pure and true. If you ever saw him flank a bucking horse, you might have wondered if it was bucking inside him! Helping young kids get on bucking horses was beyond just a passion. He was certainly one of the best rodeo mentors ever.

Dick was preceded in death by his father and mother: Andy and Lillian Gifford, first wife: Janet Gifford, and son: Aron Schmidt.

Dick is survived by his sons Brad (Camille) Gifford and Casey (Devin) Gifford, brothers Dennis Gifford and Max (Judy) Gifford, sisters Eva (Carl) Hanson and Cheri Bischoff (Joe Pettey), many grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many close nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday January 18th, 2025 at Lovell Bible Church.
